SCHUBERT | Symphony no. 8 in B minor, D. 759, Unfinished
RACHMANINOV | Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, op. 43
DEBUSSY | La mer
Unfinished yet justly celebrated, Schubert’s B minor symphony stands as a complete symphonic masterpiece in its own right. Rachmaninov’s devilishly challenging Rhapsody, paying homage to Paganini, has also become a beloved staple of the piano-orchestral repertoire. Korean pianist Hai-Kyung Suh, laureate of the prestigious Busoni International Competition, is highly acclaimed for her Rachmaninov recordings. Described as “a genuine fire-breather” by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, she will bring breathless excitement to her HK Phil debut. To conclude the concert, Jaap will guide the audience through Debussy’s unique seascapes of musical impressionism.
The concert runs approximately 1 hour 30 minutes with an intermission.
Please note latecomers will miss the whole symphony, and the audience is advised to allow enough time for admission.
For ages 6 and above
